Case Study: Royal Mail Superhub

Royal Mail Superhub, Northamptonshire

The Project

The Royal Mail Superhub situated in Northamptonshire, is a new state-of-the-art mail processing facility, set out to process up to 90,000 items per hour. Each parcel takes only seven minutes to pass through the sorting machines, and they are expected to process over 235 million parcels per year. It is Royal mail’s largest automated parcel facility yet, boasting a whopping 53-acre site (The equivalent of 30 football pitches!)

Our Impact

Working on behalf of our customer, Acorn Architectural Aluminium, and alongside main contractor, Buckingham Group Contracting, our involvement in the project was the supply and installation of three paired swing door operators. The operators were fitted to the inner and outer doors on the main entrance/reception area, with the main entrance and exit doors fitted with two free-standing safety barrier rails to comply with BS: EN 16005 legislation. Safety barrier rails assist in preventing pedestrians from coming into contact with the doors when attempting to approach from the side.

Automated doors are beneficial in busy environments such as this, to assist with the smooth and safe flow of people and parcels in and out of the facility. Our swing door operators offer continuous and intensive service in a compact design, suitable to power large and heavy doors.
