Case Study: Great Western Hospital NEW Emergency Department

The Project

The new Emergency Department (ED) has been significantly upgraded to enhance patient care and comfort: Expanded Majors Cubicles: The number of majors cubicles has increased by 45%, from 15 to 22, improving the department’s capacity.

These cubicles now provide greater privacy glass doors instead of curtains and feature individual environmental controls, including dimmable lighting for added comfort.

Improved Resuscitation Facilities: The resuscitation area has been expanded, increasing the number of cubicles from four to seven to better accommodate patients in critical or life-threatening conditions.

Enhanced Mental Health and Observation Spaces: A dedicated room for patients experiencing a mental health crisis offers a calm, secluded environment. A comfortable observation area has been created to prioritize patient well-being during monitoring.

Family Support Areas: Two relatives’ rooms, situated away from the main department’s activity, provide a quiet and supportive space for families.

Our impact

Horton Automatics played a key role in upgrading the Emergency Department, installing 25 ICU doors throughout the resuscitation and majors’ areas. We also fitted two bi-folding doors at the main entrance, providing seamless and efficient access for patients and visitors. Our ICU doors are expertly designed and manufactured to meet the rigorous demands of healthcare settings. They offer effective solutions for segregating high-risk areas, maintaining patient privacy, and enhancing infection control.
