Aberystwyth University – The first University College to open in Wales, opening its doors in 1872 with just 25 students. The University has since gone from strength to strength, growing rapidly in size, boasting a wealth of experience and history. It is said to now be home to a whopping 6,000+ students and 2,000 staff members!
The Project
The project pictured above, is the entrance to the Aberystwyth University Student Union Hub – the recognised “Students Organisation” at the University. The hub aims to bring all students together, ensuring they have the best University experience possible, a union led by students, for students.
Our impact
We were contracted by LJV Construction to supply and install two of our Horton 2021+ slimline bi-parting sliding door packages, along with pivoted pocket safety screens and the associated screenwork, fixed into 300mm high brickwork completed by LJV.
The finished project resulted in a sleek entrance, allowing for plenty of natural daylight to enter into the building. Due to the exposed location of the University, we specify sliding doors on external entrance, to ensure continual operation and functionality of the doors in adverse weather conditions. This particular entrance is also fitted with in-built electric locking, allowing the doors to work on the University’s card access system outside of normal hours – ensuring accessibility to the building 24-hours a day.
